MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT(2023-2025)

Dear Members and Friends of the CBA:

To say the 2022–2023 year was challenging is truly an understatement. With the ongoing safety issues facing the Chinatown business community and the downturn in the economy, it is a concern that we need to be vigilant of and be aware of what needs to be done for the safety and protection of our community’s personal and economic well-being.

Together as we move forward, we must reflect on our past, at the same time review the present and rejuvenate for the future.  It is crucial for our community to strengthen our commitment to stay united and be champions of equity and inclusion within this diverse society. Our vision for community unity must be strengthened.
The CBA hosted several cultural events in 2022-2023, reconvening the BBQ with the local community at the Long Table Feast.

Connecting the old and the new is another feature that our community had implemented in 2022. In March of 2023, we partnered with the Business Improvement and Area, to host the Meet and Greet event which was well attended with questions raised with Councilor Rice on issues relating to Chinatown and other related matters.

In April 2023, the Edmonton Chinese Community welcomed the New Consul General Her Excellency Madame ZHAO Liying with community meetings, followed by a community dinner.

On behalf of the Directors of the CBA, I wish everyone a safe and fun filled summer and prosperity in the years ahead.

Sincerely yours,

Mei Hung, President
Chinese Benevolent Association of Edmonton
