大道之行也,天下為公;選賢與能講信修睦.

故人不獨親其親,不獨子其子;使老有所終,壯有所用,

幼有所長,矜、寡、孤、獨、廢疾者皆有所養。

男有分，女有歸。貨惡其棄於地也，

不必藏於己;力惡其不出於身也,不必為己。

是故謀閉而不興,盗籍亂賊，而不作;故外戶而不閉。

是調大同

The Chapter of Great Harmony

When the Great Way prevails, the World is a place for all People, selecting the virtuous and capable, advocating trust and cultivating harmony.

People care for all, respecting all parents as their own parents and caring for all children as their own children. The old will have their end, the strong will be useful, and the young will grow. The humbled, widowed, lonely, and disabled, will be supported. Men will be working, and women will have homes.

Resources are used for the benefit of all, and people are willing to do their best for society and not for personal gain.

In this way, people ceased committing crime, making it safe to leave outer doors and gates unlocked.

This is the meaning of the Great Harmony
